Dugrism #9 – Phone first

Telefon 70-tal telphoneDon't stop by unannounced. People don't like that. If I am in the middle of something and someone drops by unannounced it really irks me. It puts me in the position of having to shoo them away and potentially offending them, or having to change my plans to deal with this unexpected visit.

So be polite. If you want to visit someone, phone first.

Dugrism #8 - The Golden rule of Dugrisms

184_1483 busy boatramp 10th Feb'10 3-30pmThe Golden rule of Dugrisms is simple, get out of the way! I went boating the other day and it reminded me of this Golden Rule. If you are doing something where people are waiting for you to finish so they can have their turn (like launching or retrieving your boat at a public boat launch), do not doddle. Do your thing and get out of the way. And when I say get out of the way I do not mean kinda out of the way. Get way the Hell out of the way. Believe me when I tell you that you are not so important that it’s okay for you to doddle and waste everyone else's time while you finish tying down you boat or doing something that can be done elsewhere. Somewhere where you are OUT OF THE WAY!

Dugrism #7 - Life is too short to use small pieces of soap

Soap sudsDo you find it hard to use those small pieces of shower soap but feel too wasteful throwing them away so you use them anyway? Don’t! Life is too short to deal with little annoyances and small pieces of soap are a perfect example. I realize that the Internet is full of creative things to do with those small pieces and I’m sure you could save a whole $19.95 a year but the time and energy is not worth the trouble. And yes, I’ve tried using body wash. No comparison to a nice big bar of deodorant soap. So for anything in your life that is more trouble than it’s worth, like small pieces of soap, throw it in the trash. Gone. History. Bye. Move on. You have better things to do than to deal with small soap.

Dugrism #6 – Keep the sink open

Everything and the kitchen sinkIf you have a double sink with a garbage disposal on the right side then this Dugrism is for you. Keep the disposal side open by soaking, or just placing, dirty dishes on the left side. The right side is for rinsing and scraping food, the left side for holding. Get it? Good. And if you have a dishwashing machine the dishes have no business being on the left side either, they should go straight into the dishwasher.

Dugrism #5 – Open the milk jug the “right way”

MilkJugsIn order to open some plastic milk jugs you need to twist the cap off which releases it from the retaining ring/security seal. When opening these types of jugs remove the plastic retaining ring that splits off from the cap. If not removed it will collect milk that eventually sours and that hunk of sour milk covered plastic may fall into your milk while pouring. It’s unsanitary and no fun if you have to fish it out of a glass or bowl of cereal. So do it the Dugr way and remove the ring.

Dugrism #4 – Be punctual

Panasonic "Digital" Clock - Flip closeupBe on time. If you’re not on time you are rude and you will end up wasting someone else’s time. Being on time means being 15 minutes early for appointments such as doctor, dentist and hair appointments. But when attending a party or meeting people out or picking someone up you should be exact to the minute but never be early. One minute late is better than one minute early in these situations.

Dugrism #3 – Get in and out quickly

At The MoviesWhen sharing popcorn with a friend, get your hand in and out of the popcorn bowl quickly. Don’t let your hand linger and don’t be fishing around in the bowl. Get in – Get out. Your friend wants some popcorn too ya know. And as we all know, eating popcorn is a speed sport.

Dugrism #2 – Know when to call and when not to call.

TelephoneIf you’re not a family member or a best friend DO NOT call anyone before 11:00 am or after 9:00 pm. Just don’t, it’s rude.

Dugrism #1 - Keep walking

Hedonic IlluminationWhen you get to the top of an escalator do not stop and stand in the way. GET OUT OF THE WAY and let people pass. Same goes for revolving doors. And for that matter, same thing for walking in the mall or similar situations where people are walking in a line. KEEP MOVING or get the hell out of the way.

And while I'm on the subject, listen, when you're on an escalator or moving walkway please follow these simple rules; stand on the right pass on the left. If you're so damn lazy that you are unable to walk on the moving walkway or walk up the escalator, then GET OUT OF THE WAY.
